Sarah Keane began a new chapter in her exceptional career in Irish sporting leadership when she became Chief Executive of Cricket Ireland in March 2026, making history as the first female CEO of a Full Member nation of the International Cricket Council.
Her appointment followed 21 years leading Swim Ireland, during which she helped transform the organisation and oversaw Irish swimming’s rise to unprecedented Olympic success.
As President of the Olympic Federation of Ireland from 2017 to 2024, she also played a central role in rebuilding confidence, governance and commercial strength across the Olympic movement.
At Cricket Ireland, her influence now extends into a sport with major opportunities around participation, international competition, infrastructure and commercial development. With cricket returning to the Olympics in 2028 and Ireland preparing to co-host the Men’s T20 World Cup in 2030, Keane brings proven leadership at a defining moment for the sport.

This is the 14th year we have listed 50 Women of Influence in Irish Sport. We will add new names daily from now until early December.
We have an open nomination process, and you can nominate potential additions until our closing date of November 10th, 2026.
Our definition of influence is broad and includes those making a difference in how sport is governed, managed, and brought to life. This year’s list will include CEO’s, leaders, founders, coaches, storytellers and more. To shine a light on those who may not be as familiar, we deliberately exclude those who are still active players in their sport.
We’ll host our Annual Women in Sport Conference at Lidl HQ on Tuesday, December 1st, featuring a range of national and international speakers and a room full of inspiring guests.
