Powering KindnessThe team from Special Olympics Ireland were out across all sorts of media yesterday and will be throughout the week promoting their part in the Electric Ireland Powering Kindness Week.

We are all invited to pledge a daily act of random kindness between now and Friday and nominate Special Olympics as one of the three charities to benefit from a share of an Electric Ireland donation of €100,000.

There is a strong online element to the campaign with sharing on facebook and twitter, a randomiser to suggest what your random act might be and a video (below) that seeks to lift the winter gloom and make the nation a little happier.

2FM are fully behind the campaign and Special Olympics are the ‘pet’ charity of Hector’s Breakfast Show.

Apart from the importance of the financial donation it is a great opportunity to showcase the 11,000 athletes training in 400 clubs around the country with Special Olympics.

Special Olympics provides sporting outlets and competition at local, national and international level for those who suffer from intellectual disability. Paralympics Ireland is a different organisation looking after the elite sporting needs of those with a physical disability.

Whatever you do today that might be seen as an act of kindness, whether at work, at home or in a sporting environment, take the time to log a pledge and help make a difference to our friends at Special Olympics.
