Aer Lingus, the Official Airline of the IRFU, has announced Guinness Rugby Writers of Ireland’s 2024 Women’s Player of the Year, Aoife Wafer, as a new ambassador, joining Dorothy Wall, Neve Jones, and Linda Djougang.
The announcement comes as the Irish Women’s rugby team embarks on their 2025 Guinness Women’s Six Nations Championship campaign.
Aer Lingus will bring the team and #HomeAdvantage to Ireland’s away matches through direct flights to Italy, Wales, and Scotland throughout the campaign.
Ireland aims to build on its third-place finish in the 2024 Championship, in an important year that also includes the Women’s Rugby World Cup in England.
Ireland kicks off the 2025 campaign at home against France in Belfast on Saturday, March 22nd.
For its first away game, Ireland will fly to Italy to play on March 30th before returning home to play England on April 12th in Cork.
Aer Lingus will support the team as it travels to Wales before competing in Scotland for the tournament’s final game.
Aer Lingus first partnered with the IRFU in 2015 and is celebrating a decade of support for Irish rugby this year. For 10 years, the airline has flown both the women’s and men’s teams to Six Nations matches, World Cups, and international fixtures while also bringing #HomeAdvantage across the globe.
“At Aer Lingus, we are proud to bring #HomeAdvantage to the team’s away games for the 2025 Guinness Women’s Six Nations,” said Aer Lingus Chief Customer Officer Susanne Carberry.
“As we celebrate ten years as a partner with the IRFU, we wish the team, management, coaches and our ambassadors Linda, Aoife, Dorothy and Neve the best of luck, and we look forward to welcoming them onboard.”
“The Irish supporters are truly amazing, and their energy, both at home and away, gives us a huge boost as a team,” added Ambassador Linda Djougang.
“As we approach the 2025 Guinness Women’s Six Nations, we are thrilled to have the backing of Aer Lingus once again and look forward to being welcomed onboard for our Italy, Wales and Scotland matches.”

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE
This represents a seamless transition from Aer Lingus support for the Men’s team to the Women’s as it should be. The numbers travelling in support will be less (for now), but a Rugby World Cup in England in the autumn should be well-supported and deliver a return on investment for the airline.
