Allianz Ireland has created a new two-part Allianz League Legends series featuring Kerry’s Tomás Ó Sé and Kilkenny’s Henry Shefflin.

The series launched on Allianz social channels yesterday and features the two players speaking about their experience in the Allianz Leagues from their debut right up to retirement.

Both players acknowledge how important the Allianz Leagues were in gaining experience and confidence as a young player, also mentioning the enjoyment of travelling around the country playing League games against different opposition. The Allianz Leagues were also viewed by the two players as an essential part of their counties building momentum during the seasons they went on to win at All-Ireland level.

There is a lovely retro feel using the old TV as a frame and a glimpse of Sean Óg O’Hailpín without a helmet on the field of play.

It’s short but it covers the basics of an attention deficit social media and a great way to tie together the heritage and history built up over a 29-year partnership.

That longevity makes it one of the longest sponsorships in Irish sporting history and this video series is a nostalgic look back through those years. Ó Sé and Shefflin recount the impact the competition had on their legacy, reminiscing about some of the most courageous highlights in their Leagues careers.

“It was really enjoyable to look back at some of my most memorable League moments, both good and bad,” said Shefflin.

“The Allianz Leagues provide a great platform for young players, giving them the opportunity to test themselves at inter-county level. I was given the responsibility of representing Kilkenny in the Allianz Leagues and we always aimed to perform and win every time we played.”

“It was great looking back over my Allianz League memories,” added O’Sé. “I had so many great days playing in those games with Kerry, and the experience I gained gave me the courage and confidence I needed to succeed throughout my career.”

“Allianz Ireland is immensely proud of our long-standing association with the Allianz Football and Hurling Leagues,” said Marketing Communications Manager with Allianz Ireland, Valerie Hedin.

“The competition has gone from strength to strength over the past 29 years and has seen some extraordinary players come through during that time including Tomás and Henry. It was great to hear from these two legends of Gaelic Games and their memories of playing in the Allianz Leagues and I have no doubt that the Leagues will continue to give a stage to the best sporting talent coming through in the coming years.”

Allianz is also offering GAA fans access to exclusive offers on car and home insurance as well as the chance to win €5,000 for their nominated GAA club. Read more about the initiative here.
