“All their lives these athletes have been told what they can’t do. It hasn’t stopped them. But a lack of funding can.”

Colin Farrell recorded those words from LA for the new campaign being promoted by Special Olympics Ireland to replace its Annual Bucket collection.

We spoke to CEO Matt English earlier in the summer and he expressed the certainty that there would be a replacement funding mechanism and here it is.

It is based around the idea of not giving up and not stopping. It features athlete stories from across the Special Olympics family.

Stories like that of 8-year-old Anna Kilmartin who despite being told she couldn’t ride a bike, was one of the youngest people with Down Syndrome ever to learn to do so. Or 15-year-old Damien Flynn from Cabinteely who doesn’t hear ‘Can’t’ because he’s too busy scoring goals for his local club.

The bucket collection was a vital plank of how their lives have been brought to life through funding. Now we are being asked to drop a few coins or a few notes into the digital bucket at cantstopnow.ie.

Do it as soon as the end credit rolls on today’s Daily Video.
