Athletics Ireland has this morning announced Rachel Ormrod as its new Director of Participation.

She will be responsible for leading participation initiatives including the development and implementation of a clear, coherent, and cohesive strategy to increase participation levels in all athletics activities in Ireland.

The newly created role will report to the CEO and will form part of the management team.

Ormrod joins Athletics Ireland from Cycling Ireland where she was Education and Programmes Manager.

An experienced manager and practitioner within participation in sport she looks forward to leading the participation team in Athletics.

“I am absolutely delighted to take up the role of Director of Participation with Athletics Ireland,” she said.

“Athletics is uniquely placed as one of the leading participation sports in Ireland and I look forward to contributing further to its growth potential.”

“It is a very exciting time and to be privileged with the opportunity to drive the area of participation on behalf of Athletics Ireland is an absolute honour.”

Sport for Business Perspective

More people are running than ever before and the challenge which Athletics Ireland faces is how to maintain the momentum and give people a structured way to get out on the roads with meaningful programmes to take them from one stage to another, at whatever level that may be. It is great to see this challenge recognised in the creation of this new role.
