Basketball Ireland and TG4 have agreed on an eight-game broadcast partnership for the remainder of 2023.

The climax to the National League season will be aired on the station for the first time, with the InsureMyVan.ie Super League and MissQuote.ie Champions Trophy finals.

All of Ireland’s FIBA EuroBasket and FIBA Women’s EuroBasket qualifiers are also to be screened live and free-to-air on the Irish Language station.

Only yesterday TG4 committed to 12 games for broadcast from the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division in football.

It has a two-decade long commitment as a sponsor and broadcast partner of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association.

This new deal brings the total number of TV fixtures to 11 matches being broadcast live on TG4 in 2023, having already shown the men’s and women’s InsureMyHouse.ie National Cup finals in January and Ireland’s FIBA Women’s EuroBasket fixture against the Czech Republic in February.

“We are delighted to agree this partnership with TG4, who have backed basketball in a big way over the last number of years,” said Basketball Ireland CEO, John Feehan.

“They have provided excellent live coverage of our InsureMyHouse.ie National Cup finals and our internationals since we re-entered into FIBA EuroBasket in 2021. This is another illustration of the growing appetite for top level basketball in this country, with 11 free-to-air games broadcast on TG4 this year.”

The new agreement begins with a special double-header at the National Basketball Arena on April 1st. ‘Super Saturday’ will be broadcast from 11.50 and starts with the MissQuote.ie Champions Trophy final (1200 tip off), followed by InsureMyVan.ie Super League final (1415 tip off).

“TG4 are looking forward to broadcasting the InsureMyVan.ie Super League and the MissQuote.ie Champions Trophy finals on national television for the first time ever,” added Rónán O’Coisdealbha, TG4 Head of Sport.

“The domestic basketball season will come to an exciting finale, with sports fans getting the opportunity to see what Irish basketball has to offer within this free-to-air coverage. The live National League finals coverage establishes TG4’s commitment to Irish basketball, adding to the National Cups finals and international FIBA matches which TG4 already broadcast.”

Ireland’s men return to FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers action this summer, with four games in July and August, Ireland’s women begin their FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers campaign in November, with two games taking place. The FIBA group draw and fixtures for both teams are still to be revealed.

Every game from National League finals weekend, which takes place in the National Basketball Arena from March 31st- April 2nd, will be shown live on Basketball Ireland’s streaming platform basketballireland.tv.
