It was the sporting story of the festive season and now there is a new sponsor for Darts and the Premier League which will be coming to Dublin and Belfast in March.
Both 16-year-old sensation Luke Littler and World Champion Luke Humphries have been named in the eight-man lineup that will compete in the 17-venue Premier League Tour which has announced online betting platform BetMGM as its new title sponsor.
The renamed BetMGM Premier League will kick off on Thursday 1st February and run through until May. The players who are involved each night in a knock-out format will compete for £1m in prize money across the tournament which culminates in London in May. The tournament is broadcast live every Thursday night on Sky Sports.
The BetMGM Premier League season will see matches played in Berlin, Glasgow, Newcastle, Exeter, Brighton, Nottingham, Dublin, Belfast, Manchester, Birmingham, Rotterdam, Liverpool, Aberdeen, Leeds and Sheffield before reaching London.
Wednesday night’s Paddy Power sponsored World Championship Final at the Alexandra Palace in London was watched by 4.8 million people on Sky Sports, the biggest ever non-football viewership for the channel.
“The Premier League will reach a huge live audience and a massive global television audience across four months, and we’re delighted to welcome BetMGM as our new title sponsor,” said Matt Porter, Chief Executive Officer of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC).
“This year marks the 20th staging of the Premier League and it is already the most eagerly awaited, with the standard of entertainment across PDC events in the past 12 months having continued to rise.”
“As we enter the third year of the eight-player, nightly knockout format we’re excited about working alongside BetMGM to promote such a wide-reaching event.”
BetMGM have recently extended their commercial roster and has partnered with Manchester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with such an exciting and entertaining event as Premier League Darts and look forward to an action-packed 2024 for both BetMGM and the PDC,” added UK Director Sam Behar.
