Cara, the national organisation providing a collaborative and partnership platform to enhance sport and physical activity opportunities for people with disabilities, is looking to appoint two new Board Members.

It is looking for particular special focus in the areas of legal and communications and marketing.

The core belief at Cara is that people, irrespective of the nature of their disabilities, should have access to lifelong opportunities to participate in sports and physical activities of their choice.

The organisation was founded in 2007 and is based in Tralee. It’s current three year strategic plan, launched in January of this year, outlines a clear commitment to working in collaboration with national and local partners to make active and healthy lifestyles possible for people with disabilities, while ensuring the voice and needs of people with disabilities is placed at the forefront of all our decisions and actions.

Cara became members of the Sport for Business Community this year and they have been a very impressive organisation to work with.

The launch last year of the Ireland’s first ever Sport Inclusion Disability Charter has had a real impact on making organisations think about disability in a new light, and a positive one.

The organisation works closely with Local Sports Partnerships around the country and provides a sense of community for the Sports Inclusion and Disability Officers working within the local authority framework.

It works with 15 National Governing Bodies of sport at present and provides training and capacity building in areas including Disability Inclusion Training, Inclusive Fitness Training, Autism in Sport and Inclusive Adventure Activities Training.

Those wishing to express interest in the positions, which are undertaken on a voluntary basis, are asked to email a high level biography and a note outlining your interest before Wednesday 9th of October to Niamh Daffy (CEO, Cara) at
