Carlsberg kick started its presence as sponsor of the Euro’s and of the Republic of Ireland team in Dublin yesterday by bringing former Euro Championship and World Cup winner Marcel Desailly to town.

“I really think this tournament is a hard one to call.” he said after a photo shoot in Kilmainham that included a number of staff from WHPR.  The eagle eyed among you will spot Dublin Senior Hurler David Treacy to the right of the picture above.

“Yes, there are the usual big teams and they will be hard to beat but I think it will throw up a few surprise results.”

“Ireland are one of those teams who nobody will want to play. They play with a lot of heart, have a good manager and they have the most amazing fans – which can make the difference.”

“I’ve heard that around 70,000 Irish fans will travel to Paris, which is incredible.”

As part of Carlsberg’s commitment to ‘do it better for the fans’ the brand have given away over 1,500 match tickets to Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland fans. These were distributed through pubs, off licenses, social media and competitions.  They were given away at a special Off the Ball live show last night on Newstalk.

Euro 2016 in France will be Carlsberg’s eighth consecutive tournament as sponsors and coupled with their status as official beer partner to the Irish Football Team, Carlsberg Brand Manager, Colum Campbell, believes this tournament is all about celebrating that the role the fans play.

“The excitement is really building towards the tournament with only nine days to go until kick off.”

“We are delighted to be able to support so many Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland fans in getting to the matches in France and for those not travelling I’m sure they will be supporting their team in their local pub.”
