The five-star Cashel Palace Hotel has extended its sponsorship of the Group 3 Cashel Palace Hotel Derby Trial Stakes for three years.

Cashel Palace Hotel sponsored last year’s renewal for the first time, and their backing of the world-renowned Classic trial will see the prize fund for this year’s race on Sunday, May 11 grow to €100,000.

The 10-furlong contest for three-year-olds has long served as a vital stepping stone to Group One and Classic success for many of racing’s biggest names.

Its role of honour includes subsequent Epsom Derby winners Sinndar, Galileo and High Chaparral, while the four-time Ascot Gold Cup winner Yeats was the 2004 winner with Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe hero Dylan Thomas landing the coveted Leopardstown prize in 2006.

Last season’s winner, Los Angeles, went on to win the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby, as did Alamshar and Fame And Glory before him, while other previous winners, Casual Conquest, Fascinating Rock, Broome and Bolshoi Ballet, were all subsequent Group or Grade 1 scorers.

Cashel Palace Hotel as one of the world’s leading hotels. Set within a magnificent regal manor dating back to 1732, and with views of the iconic Rock of Cashel, this landmark address has been meticulously restored to create a truly desirable destination hotel in the heart of Ireland.  It has deep racing roots through the ownership of Coolmore owner John Magnier.

“We are delighted to be associated again with Derby Trials Day at Leopardstown,” said Adriaan Bartels, General Manager.

“If it is as successful as last year we will be delighted. It’s a great day out that everyone will enjoy.”

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with a quality brand such as Cashel Palace Hotel and the support they have committed to the Derby Trials Stakes running through to 2027 is very significant.,” added Paul Dermody, CEO HRI Racecourses.

“This important race in the calendar will carry a prize fund of €100,000 for the next three years and is one of a number of prize money enhancements across the Flat programme that Leopardstown have confirmed for this season and beyond.”

This eagerly anticipated race meeting is also Family Fun Day and there will be a jam-packed schedule of entertainment and attractions for all ages. If you love horseracing, our family fun day events are the perfect way to introduce children of all ages to the exciting world of racing.
