Centra has announced a new partnership with Hurling for Cancer Research, the annual charity hurling match that raises vital funds for the Irish Cancer Society.

This year’s event will take place on Monday, 18 August at 7:30pm in Netwatch Cullen Park, Carlow.

All proceeds from the exhibition match will go directly to support the Irish Cancer Society’s life-saving cancer research efforts.

Tickets are now available, priced at €10 for adults and €5 for children, and can be purchased in select Centra and SuperValu GAA Ticket Agent stores, or online at www.hurlingforcancer.ie.

Launched in 2012 by racehorse trainer Jim Bolger and champion jockey Davy Russell, the event has become a staple in the Irish sporting calendar, drawing together top athletes, GAA legends, and celebrities.

To date, Hurling for Cancer Research has raised nearly €1.7 million, contributing significantly to the Irish Cancer Society’s annual investment of around €4 million in cancer research projects nationwide.

Centra’s involvement will include financial support and in-store promotional campaigns to help drive awareness and ticket sales.

“We’re proud to support the Hurling for Cancer Research initiative,” said Des O’Mahony, Interim Marketing Director at Centra.

“This powerful collaboration deepens our long-standing connection to communities through hurling, while reinforcing our commitment to vital, life-changing cancer research.”

“Davy and I are thrilled that Centra have come on board to help with our fundraiser,” added Jim Bolger. “We look forward to welcoming everyone to Netwatch Cullen Park in August for another great event.”

“We are delighted to see Centra supporting Hurling for Cancer Research this year,” said Averil Power, CEO of the Irish Cancer Society.

“The support of the organisers and volunteers over the past decade has been phenomenal. This event plays a crucial role in helping us invest in the groundbreaking research that is turning once-terminal cancers into treatable and curable conditions.”
