Each weekend we select performances from Irish sport that are worthy of highlighting. This weekend we are highlighting performances across seven different sports.

Peter O’Mahony

Ireland’s latest Triple Crown in the Guinness Men’s Six Nations was delivered on Saturday in Cardiff and the ambition to become the first team in history to win back to back Six Nations Grand Slams continues.

While Jamison Gibson park won the official man of the Match award, credit has also to go to Peter O’Mahony who played the full 80 minutes for the first time this season and made 16 tackles, missing not a one.

Caelan Doris, who missed the game through injury but is his successor as Captain made his way first to him when he came on after the final whistle.  That said it all.

 

David Clifford

Making his first start of the season away to Tyrone in the Allianz Football League, Clifford that he remains at the very top of his game scoring a hat-trick of goals in Kerry’s victory.

 

Irish Athletics

Led by the exploits of Sarah healy, Sarah Lavin and Sharon Mawdsley in winning their national championships, Athletics Ireland sold out the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena over two days of competition.

 

Irish Swimming

Team Ireland Olympians Ellen Walshe, Grace Davison, Danielle Hill and Tom Fannon were all victorious on the final day of racing at the 2025 McCullagh International meet in Bangor over the weekend, with New Ross’ Emmet Cousins the fifth Irish gold medallist.

 

Sarah Slattery and Katie Reilly

This weekend, Ireland was represented at the prestigious Chi Al Shaqab Paralympic Equestrian Meeting in Doha by Paralympian Sarah Slattery and Katie Reilly, riding their mares Savona and Keystone Dawn Chorus.

Slattery had an incredible competition, securing three 3rd place finishes, with the highlight being a personal best in the Grade V Grand Prix Freestyle on Saturday.

Reilly also had a great showing earning third place finish in the Grade III Grand Prix Freestyle.

 

Irish Women’s Hockey

There was a winning start for the Irish Women’s Hockey team at the FIH Pro League in Chile on Sunday, with a 3-0 victory over Scotland.  New Zealand is next up for the team at 8 pm on Tuesday night.

 

Irish Women’s National Team 

Carla Ward’s reign as manager of the Republic of Ireland National team got off to a winning start against Turkey at Tallaght Stadium on Friday night.
