Limerick Hurlers
It was not the most thrilling of All-Ireland Finals, but that should not take away from the dominance of Limerick, who proved untouchable, winning their sixth title in nine seasons against a Galway side who could never really get going in the face of incredible intensity.
Kerry and Galway’s Ladies Footballers
The two semi-finals of the TG4 All-Ireland Ladies’ Football Championship took place in Longford and Thurles on Saturday and produced two dominant performances from Galway over Armagh and then Kerry over the reigning Champions Dublin.
The two sides will now meet in the Final at Croke Park on August 2nd. It is a repeat of the 2024 final, which Kerry won. Galway are seeking their first title in 22 years.
Shelbourne Women’s Footballers
Shelbourne secured their first-ever Women’s All-Ireland Cup with a 2-0 victory over Galway United at Tolka Park on Saturday.
College Corinthians and Castlebar Celtic
College Corinthians emerged from a remarkable nine-goal contest in Dublin to defeat Bangor Celtic 5-4 and advance to the third round of the Club Orange Men’s FAI Cup. The reigning FAI Intermediate Cup holders are now one of two remaining non-league sides in the last 16 of the tournament, alongside Castlebar Celtic of Mayo.
Ireland U20 Rugby
Ireland’s Under-20 rugby team concluded its World Championship campaign positively by beating Italy 34-26 to secure ninth place in Georgia. Andrew Browne’s side recovered from opening defeats against England and Argentina to finish with three consecutive victories.
Irish Athletics
Ireland’s young female athletes secured three medals at the European Athletics Under-18 Championships in Rieti. Lucie Cawley of Sligo AC became Ireland’s first medallist in the steeplechase at the championships, taking 2,000 metres silver in an Irish under-18 record of 6:36.22. United Striders AC’s Emma Hickey added silver in the 1,500 metres, timing her late move superbly to finish in 4:24.90. Isabelle Gaffney of West Waterford AC completed the medal treble with 800 metres bronze, equalling her personal best of 2:06.10.
