Paralympics Ireland has confirmed the appointment of Ruth Nic Aoidh as its interim Chief Executive Officer.

Nic Aoidh steps into the role following the surprise departure of CEO Miriam Malone at the end of August.

Malone had led the organisation for a period of five and a half years, joining after the Rio Paralympic Games and overseeing the staging of the Allianz European Para Swimming Championships at the Sport Ireland Campus as well as Ireland’s participation in the delayed Tokyo Paralympic Games.

She has been a regular on our AIG-backed list of the 50 Women of Influence in Irish Sport dating back to her time as the Director of Partnerships at the FAI.

Having always been a very approachable and honest leader we wish her well in whatever the next chapter proves to be.

The search for her successor will begin in earnest shortly but in the meantime, Ruth Nic Aoidh is a very impressive interim appointment.

She has served on the Strategy Committee chaired over the past year by Board member Lisa Clancy, alongside former President John Fulham and as such will have a deep understanding of the organisation with preparation already underway for the next Paralympic Games in Paris in two years’ time.

She has spent the last 13 years with McLaren Automotive in Britain where she most recently the Executive Director responsible for Procurement, Commercial, Legal and Government Affairs and Company Secretary.

A native of Gweedore in County Donegal, she graduated in law from UCD and started her career as a lawyer in Dublin with Matheson.

She was to the fore of F! manufacturers coming together to provide ventilator technology at the height of the Covid pandemic and will now bring all her experience to the task of leading Paralympic sport across Ireland, at least in the short term.
