Athletics Ireland has announced Clonmel Healthcare as its new Official Healthcare Partner, adding another nationally recognised brand to the governing body’s commercial portfolio.

The partnership brings together one of Ireland’s leading healthcare companies with a sport that continues to grow at both the elite level and in mass participation.

The agreement will focus on athlete wellbeing, education, public health messaging and community engagement, while supporting Athletics Ireland’s extensive calendar of national championships, recreational running events and high-performance programmes.

With more than 75,000 registered members across 370 affiliated clubs, alongside hundreds of thousands of recreational runners, athletics offers one of the broadest participation bases of any sport in Ireland.

Healthcare and athletics represent a particularly natural fit.

From youth participation and healthy lifestyles to elite performance, injury prevention and active ageing, the opportunities extend far beyond traditional logo placement.

The agreement demonstrates the continuing commercial strength of a sport that has enjoyed unprecedented public attention in recent years, driven by the achievements of athletes including Rhasidat Adeleke, Sarah Lavin, Ciara Mageean, Kate O’Connor and Mark English.

That increased profile has translated into greater commercial interest as brands seek long-term partnerships capable of engaging communities across Ireland.

123. i.e., is the main commercial partner of the sport, with Irish Life, Vhi, Dublin City Council, EuroSpar, and others also attracted to the sport at the national level and for major events.

The challenge now is activation.

The most successful sports partnerships increasingly succeed through storytelling, education, digital engagement and practical initiatives rather than branding alone.

It represents another example of how governing bodies with strong participation numbers continue to attract commercial partners looking for meaningful engagement with Irish consumers.
