The Hiscox Irish Open this weekend is another sign that padel has moved well beyond being the newest trend in Irish sport.

Participation continues to rise, new facilities are opening across Ireland, including Druid Padel, which has already played host to one of our Sport for Business Round Table events, and an increasing number of brands are identifying the sport as a platform capable of engaging active, affluent and socially connected audiences.

For title sponsor Hiscox, the Irish Open provides an opportunity to establish an early leadership position in a sport that is still developing but whose trajectory mirrors that seen across much of continental Europe.

Unlike many traditional sports, padel combines competition with strong social interaction.

Players typically spend as much time networking before and after matches as they do on court, making the sport particularly attractive for business communities and corporate hospitality.

That has helped attract premium consumer brands and businesses seeking deeper engagement than conventional event sponsorship often provides.

Ireland has already seen growing commercial interest in the sport, with partnerships involving brands such as CUPRA and increasing investment from venue operators and developers.

The Hiscox Irish Open arrives at an important stage in that journey.

The competition itself has already advanced from a Bronze to a Silver event on the European Tour after only one year. It offers an opportunity to showcase the quality of Irish facilities, the standard of domestic competition and the potential to attract international events.

Success will be measured not simply by who wins the tournament but by the event’s ability to generate awareness, participation and long-term commercial confidence.

Padel’s appeal lies in its accessibility.

The sport is easy to learn, suitable for all ages and highly social, characteristics that align well with brands focused on health, wellbeing, community and relationship building.

The question is no longer whether padel will continue to grow.

It is how quickly brands, investors and governing bodies can position themselves to benefit from that growth.
