Cork Ladies Footballers are to play at Pairc Uí Chaoimh for the first time in a move that mirrors what has been achieved with Dublin at Croke Park with the men’s and women’s team taking part in double header games as part of the Allianz Football National League and the Lidl Ladies Football National League.

Despite unrivalled success winning ten All Ireland titles in eleven years, the women had never got to play in Cork GAA’s iconic home. Many would not realise that the two teams are governed as entirely different sports but the stepping up as Chair of the Cork GAA Board of Tracey Kennedy, together with the completion of the redevelopment of the stadium, has been a catalyst for change.

Cork’s Camogie All Ireland Champions have played in the stadium and this latest move completes another phase of advance for the Women’s games.

The TG4 Munster Senior champions will take on Tipperary at the famed Leeside venue at 5pm on Saturday, February 23, in a fixture that will create history. Cork senior men will play Meath with a 7 PM throw in.

The double header concept will be repeated on Saturday afternoon, March 16th when the Women’s and the men’s teams will both play against Donegal in the respective competitions.

In recent weeks, the Ladies Gaelic Football Association has been in close consultation with the Cork county board and Páirc Uí Chaoimh, in order to make these truly historic games a reality.

The ground-breaking announcement follows hot on the heels of confirmation that reigning Lidl NFL Division 1 and TG4 All-Ireland champions Dublin will also play two ‘double-headers’ at Croke Park on February 2 and February 23, against Donegal and Mayo respectively. Both of those games will be televised live on eir Sport.

The Ladies Gaelic Football Association is also understood to be working on confirming a number of other double header fixtures, and will reveal the full list of confirmed games later this week.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to host these double-headers in Páirc Uí Chaoimh and hope that the people of Cork show up in numbers to support both our women’s and men’s football teams on these two very special occasions,” said Cork GAA Chairperson Tracey Kennedy.

“This is fantastic news for the Cork Ladies Footballers, who have won numerous honours in recent years,” added Helen O’Rourke, CEO of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association.

“On behalf of the LGFA, I would like to thank Cork GAA for their hard work in ensuring that their Ladies Footballers have such a fabulous venue in which to display their talents.”
