Katie Power celebrates at the final whistle 11/9/2016Kilkenny broke a 22 year drought in winning yesterday’s All Ireland Camogie Final on a day when attendance for the sport’s biggest occasion moved up in a positive fashion.

20,047 filled the Hogan stand and part of the Davin Stand as the attendance climbed substantially on last year.

This was a tribute to the work of the Camogie Association in promoting the finals and to the added exposure from having two nip and tuck semi finals televised live on RTÉ last month.

You have to feel for Libby Coppinger who came on as a substitute in the Senior Final having already played 40 minutes of the similarly unsuccessful Intermediate Final earlier in the afternoon.

At least she will get a third chance when she could make another Croke Park appearance for Cork against Dublin in the All Ireland Ladies Football Final in two weeks time.

Castleknock GAA Club also proved to be big winners on the day taking home the €5,000 first prize in the Liberty Insurance Skills Club Skills Challenge that had built up around the country over the summer and culminated in a sudden death finish at half time yesterday.
