Admission prices to the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh racecourse this summer are to be reduced by 25% to mark the 150th running of the race.

Tickets bought in advance will only cost €25 and a ticket including Dublin Coach transport from the City Centre will be available for €30.

There will be a big festival around the day itself, on Saturday 27th June, including concerts, a new permanent art installation on the approach roundabout at Ballymena, and a book on the history of the race being published to mark the big celebration.

At Sport for Business we confess to a little personal ‘skin in that game’ as Founder Rob Hartnett’s great grandfather Willie Barrett rode the winner of the Derby in 1915, and his parents wedding reception was reportedly paid for out of a gift from Bing Crosby to his grandfather who was in charge of Meadow Court when he won the centenary race in 1965. Here’s a little blast from the past..

The season was kicked off last night with a special event at the K Club and will also feature new sponsorship of the Guineas Festival from Tattersalls, and the second running of the Champions’ Weekend in September.

We will have more on the promotion of the racing calendar through the summer but already we like the imagery and tagline of ‘Powerful Racing’ that is being used.
