Dell in the UK is to sponsor a one day Festival of Touch Rugby next month which will be used to explore how the sport can be used to reach out to young people facing social challenges in their communities.
The company, also a major employer here in Ireland will partner with a number of charities including Beyond Sport and will engage with various rugby stakeholders to be present on the day and to help in building a programme that will inspire those who attend and hopefully further as well.
“Businesses have an important part to play in actively changing the lives of children – we have the means to provide the support and skills they need to succeed,” said Tim Griffin, Managing Director of Dell UK and also a member of the Welsh Rugby Union Board.
“The Dell Festival of Touch Rugby will will give us the chance to equip young adults with a variety of tools that will enable them to create greater opportunities for themselves in both education and employment environments.”
The Festival itself will take place over one day at RichmondRugby Club near Twickenham in South West London. Â It will involve players that are already involved in Touch Rugby programmes in communities across England.
There will be coaching and mentoring from players and workshops to assist in providing a real life context for the lessons learned on the pitch and how they can be applied to individual lives and within communities.
This one day event could yet grow into something more and is a fine example of how sport can be used in a Corporate Social Responsibility context.
