The Aer Lingus College Football Classic launched a new content series this week to mark 150 days until this year’s game between K-State and Iowa State at the Aviva Stadium.
The Aer Lingus Classic – College Football Diaries offers a unique behind-the-scenes look at College Football.
Andy Quinn from Galway is the first player to feature. Emerging from lockdown in 2022, he was in transition year and helping a friend filming Tadhg Leader do some kicking drills in Galway.
Later in the summer, he answered a Facebook advertisement for the ‘Ireland’s Kicking King Competition’.
Heats in Galway and a final at Half Time in that year’s game in the Aviva Stadium were his playground. When he won, he was offered an NFL scholarship at Loughborough in England, the same university where Daniel Wiffen honed his Olympic credentials.
An invite to train and play with the Irish Wolfhounds followed, and then he travelled to the US to participate in another kicking academy, where he also shone.
He was offered a scholarship by the Boston College Eagles and is now preparing for his first full year on the squad.
The Diary includes the rituals of accepting the offer and being named on teams and is certainly enough to whet the appetite of any other young kickers in rugby or Gaelic football. You can read Andy Quinn’s story to date here.
Tickets are now on sale for the game this year on Saturday, August 23rd. An announcement on the 2026 game is also expected shortly.
