Luke Donald is currently live on Sky Sports, making his Captain’s Picks for the Ryder Cup taking place in New York at the end of this month.
Live Updates
14:05 Shane Lowry is the first Captain’s Pick. This will be Shane’s third outing with the team, and “he understands the importance of team over everything better than any other player,” said Donald.
14:10 Jon Rahm is the second pick, bringing his two Major victory career, and of course an Irish Open as well to the team room. We have also learned that he has a particular obsession with Star Wars…
14:15 Sepp Straka from Austria has been selected to make his second appearance on the team. “A quiet, reserved character but with real fire in his belly and a great performer on the PGA Tour in America,” said Donald.
14:18 Viktor Hovland from Norway has been picked to make his third European appearance. “Viktor is one of my favourite human beings,” said Donald.
14:21 Luvig Aberg was only three months into his career when picked for the 2023 team, but he formed part of a record-breaking partnership with Hovland and is back on the team sheet again.
14:24 Matt Fitzpatrick is the sixth and final of Luke Donald’s picks. Representing Europe for the fourth time, today is special as it is also his birthday.
Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrell Hatton, Robert MacIntyre and Rasmus Hojgaard are the automatic qualifiers with their places already booked.
That team selection makes it pretty exciting to look forward to.
