The match against Australia will take place at Patersons Stadium in Perth on Saturday 22 November. The later date and one off match was agreed between the two countries following discussions that took place earlier this year.
A later date than normal means players can return to their clubs after the Championship and play a greater part in the AIB Club Championships.
This year’s series has been reduced to a one off match and there have been changes to the rules after two years of heavy defeats for the Australians. Rule amendments will make it more geared towards their strengths and the quality of player lining out will be raised by limiting selection to those who have been nominated for an “All Australia’ team during their career.
“Australia, as one of the most densely populated regions for Irish people living abroad, is obviously a key market for us,” said GAA President Liam O’Neill.
“Having GAAGO as sponsor of the Irish team will mean even greater exposure of the service in the region.”
“Having lived in Australia for a number of years and longed for a service as convenient as GAAGO during that time, I am delighted with their sponsorship of the Irish team,” added Ireland team manager Paul Earley.
“It is a means for GAA fans living down under to connect to home on match days and is a great fit for all concerned”
O’ Neill’s, the official supplier to the Irish team, will make the new jersey available for purchase on www.oneills.com from today. The jersey is popular among GAA fans, especially overseas, and among visitors to Ireland.
GAAGo is the third sponsor of the international rules team following Coca Cola and the Irish Daily Mail. TG4 have also been involved as sponsors over recent series and will broadcast the match to an Irish audience in November.
