The crossover between media that is an increasing trend in Ireland and elsewhere will see Ger Gilroy make his UTV debut tonight as the channel’s new presenter for its weekly sports round-up.
Gilroy will continue to present Newstalk’s ‘Off the Ball’ sports show, echoing the way in which Chris O’Donoghue is marrying two roles across the same media on the news side.

The channel’s sports news output is also to be boosted by the signing of Marie Crowe from the Sunday Independent, where she was a sports reporter for five years, and Bernard O’Toole who steps over from FM104, where he led the station’s sports coverage for 12 years.
“From 10.30pm to 11pm every Friday, Ireland Live at 10 will focus on all the sporting action for the weekend ahead,” said Mary Curtis, Head of Channel for UTV Ireland.

“Ger is a top-tier sports broadcaster with an encyclopaedic knowledge for sport – so, naturally we felt he would be a great fit for the programme. He is also hugely respected by sports professionals, by his peers in the media and by the fantastic following he has generated throughout his broadcasting career. With Marie and Bernard covering the latest from the world of sport throughout the week, Ger completes the UTV Ireland sports team and I am delighted to welcome him to the channel.”
