A new three-year agreement between Golf Ireland and Mahony Fleet will put four co-branded Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrids on the road to support the governing body’s work across the island of Ireland.
The agreement covers both leasing and servicing of the vehicles, which Golf Ireland staff will use when travelling to clubs, championships, high-performance programmes and participation initiatives.
It is a relatively straightforward commercial arrangement, but it highlights an increasingly important area of sports partnership: relationships that support the operational requirements of a governing body while also providing conventional brand exposure.
With next week’s budget set to reveal the core funding envelope from which Sport Ireland will distribute funding to the NGBs to run their sports and programmes, this provides at least one element that will not need to be paid out of central funds for the sport.
“At Golf Ireland our staff are on the road supporting clubs and events every week of the year,” said Golf Ireland CEO Mark Kennelly.
“This agreement with Mahony Fleet will help us do that efficiently, and we’re grateful for their support as we continue to grow the game across the island.”
Mahony Fleet already has a connection with Irish golf. It has backed Irish professionals including Conor Purcell and Lauren Walsh, and the Denis Mahony Group was also recently announced as an official partner of the 2026 Women’s Irish Challenge at Malahide Golf Club, won in her first professional tournament by rising star Beth Coulter.
“We’re proud to be chosen by Golf Ireland to support their fleet needs,” added Managing Director Stephen Mahony.
“Keeping their team moving reliably across the country means they can focus on what matters most: supporting clubs, players and events, and growing the game at every level.”
Sport for Business Perspective
Supplier partnerships can sometimes be overlooked alongside larger title sponsorships and broadcast deals in sport, but they can directly affect the cost and effectiveness of delivering a governing body’s work.
Four serviced vehicles provide predictable transport infrastructure across an organisation whose remit stretches from local clubs and participation programmes through championships to high performance.
The vehicles themselves become mobile branded assets promoting the sport and the sponsor.
This is an example of a commercial partnership delivering against an operational need, and there is plenty of scope for Irish governing bodies to think similarly about the products and services they already procure.
