Gymnastics Ireland is riding a wave of popularity driven by the performance of its stars, including Rhys McClenaghan and Meg Ryan and underpinned by a strong network of clubs and events that are building a new generation.
The best time to plan for the future is from a position of strength and that is what the National Governing Body has done during a week when it will be in the public consciousness as never before.
It has launched a new Strategic Plan for 2021-2024 and backed that up with two new sub-strategies looking at Education and Participation across the same period and at High performance across the next two Olympic Cycles of 2024 and 2028.
The Strategic Plan outlines a vision of where the sport wants to be that is telling in its simplicity and which underpins the rest of the document.
We want to be present in every local Irish community providing enjoyable gymnastics opportunities for all, through our expanding network of innovative clubs.
We want to be embedded in the consciousness of Irish sporting culture, providing national showcase events at home and globally energising performances away for the appreciation and entertainment of all Irish sports fans.
It highlights six key areas of focus from Culture and Governance through Club Development and Events to the services offered to members and the importance of profile in driving commercial revenues.
The sport has a track record in delivery. It was the first to see the real value of developing a shared model with the Sport Ireland Campus and the Gymnastics facility as part of the Indoor Arena is a vibrant mark of what a good decision that was.
It promises to be an exciting period regardless of whether Rhys McClenaghan can deliver a prized Olympic medal next weekend.
The plans that are in place and which can be downloaded below will ensure that the sport is one to follow in the long run.
‘I’m incredibly excited to be announcing the launch of the three new strategies that will guide Gymnastics Ireland over the crucial years to come,” said Chair Shane O’Connor.
“Of particular importance to me as Chair of the new Board that has been in place since July 2019 is the launch of the Strategic Plan 2021 – 2024. We have engaged with and listened closely to our members and partners in the development of the strategies; I would like to sincerely thank them for their input and hope they are as excited about the road that we have mapped as we are.”
“These strategies outline the road ahead as we emerge from Covid19 and bounce back into the extraordinary growth that our sport has been experiencing over the past number of years,” added CEO Ciaran Gallagher.
“A huge amount of work went into producing these crucial documents and I must thank the clubs/members and partners who engaged with us in this process to provide their thoughts and feedback.”
“Particularly I must also recognise the huge efforts of the GI Board and staff team in driving the developments. We have achieved a huge amount in recent years but still, it feels like we are just getting started – much more to come from Gymnastics Ireland in the years ahead.”
