Hockey Ireland has announced a new partnership with TG4, which will see the broadcaster promote and showcase a comprehensive package of Hockey content across 2025.

To launch the partnership, TG4 will live stream both the Ireland Senior Women’s and Senior Men’s hockey teams as they compete in the FIH Nations Cup in Chile Feb 23-Mar 3 and the FIH Pro League in India Feb 21-25, respectively.

TG4 has utilised sport as a key part of its success last year with over 80% of the Irish population – equating to 3.73 million people – tuning into the channel at some point during 2024 and the surge in popularity extending beyond television, with 4.3 million video views on the TG4 Player (VOD & Live).

The partnership comes as the sport of hockey too sees an increase in its popularity across Ireland’s four provinces alongside the continued success of its Ireland representative teams, with participation in three consecutive Olympics and participation in the FIH Pro League, international hockey’s highest level of regular competition.

The Ireland Men’s team are currently ranked tenth in the world and are in their second season of the FIH Pro League, Hockey’s highest level of annual international competition.

Having gained valuable experience in the competition last season, the Men’s team will aspire to maintain their topflight status for the 2025/26 season.

The Ireland Women’s team are currently ranked twelfth in the world and will begin their FIH Nations Cup campaign this Sunday, February 23rd, with the primary goal being to secure the gold medal and promotion to the FIH Pro League for season 2025/26 alongside the Men’s team.

“Increasing the visibility of our sport in line with its growth in popularity is a key strategic goal for us at Hockey Ireland,” said CEO Anne McCormack.

“Our partnership with TG4 allows us to both provide a destination for hockey fans wanting to watch the sport they love.”

“It’s also an opportunity to showcase the characteristics and attributes of our sport to a much wider audience. We know the opportunity to build an audience around our sport is huge and this partnership allows us to do just that.”

“The growing interest in Hockey is evident, and our collaboration with Hockey Ireland will help introduce this fast-paced and skilful sport to a broader audience,” added Rónán Ó Coisdealbha, Head of TG4 Spórt.

“We are excited to start our partnership with coverage of the upcoming international competition schedule and expect to engage fans and new viewers as the teams look to take on the very best teams in international hockey.”
