The KPMG Women’s Irish Open has been boosted again in only it’s second year back on the sporting calendar with the news today that Men’s Irish Open Title Sponsor, Horizon Therapeutics has committed its support to the event to be held held at Dromoland Castle from the 31st of August to the 3rd of September.

The leading Ladies European Tour event tees up a week prior to the Horizon Irish Open and will once again draw Europe’s leading professional female golfers to battle it out for a total prize fund of €400,000.

“We are delighted to announce our partnership with the KPMG Women’s Irish Open, which further strengthens our commitment to golf in Ireland and globally,” said Tim Walbert, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Horizon.

“Ensuring a positive impact on the communities in which we operate and building the highest performing diverse teams is core to how we operate at Horizon, and we believe this partnership underlines these values.”

“Our existing work with partners like Pádraig Harrington, Shane Lowry, Seamus Power and Brendan Lawlor, alongside our title sponsorship of the Horizon Irish Open, means that this partnership is a natural next step in our support for the game.”

“As a company we are dedicated to ensuring excellence in all that we do so it has been fantastic to see so many high calibre players announced for the tournament already.”

“We are really looking forward to what will be a week of incredible golf.”

“I’m thrilled that Horizon have partnered with the 2023 KPMG Women’s Irish Open this year at Dromoland Castle,” added Tournament Director and CEO of ForeFront Sport, Cian Branagan.

“For years, Horizon have demonstrated their enthusiastic support for golf in Ireland, most notably by being the title sponsor of the Men’s Horizon Irish Open and now, showcasing their support of women’s golf, by joining forces with the KPMG Women’s Irish Open.”

“We are honoured to welcome Horizon as a proud sponsor of the KPMG Women’s Irish Open at Dromoland Castle,” said Mark Noal, General manager at the Five Star property.

“This partnership signifies an important milestone in our journey towards promoting equality and diversity in golf. With Horizon’s support, we will amplify the visibility of women’s golf, encourage participation, and pave the way for a more inclusive future in the sport.”

Horizon is a global biotechnology company, headquartered in Dublin, dedicated to the development of groundbreaking medicines targeting rare, autoimmune, and severe inflammatory diseases.

It became Title Sponsor of the Horizon Men’s Irish Open in 2022, taking over from Dubai Duty Free in an initial six-year deal.

It now joins KPMG, the Title sponsor; Amundi as a Premium Partner; Dromoland Castle, Fáilte Ireland the Ladies European Tour and Sport Ireland as official Host partners; and Sports Direct, Sky Sports, OTB Sports and indeed Sport for Business from among our members network as sponsors and official media partners.

Sport for Business Perspective

Supporting Men’s Sport without doing similar for the Women’s game has become as out of step now as the opposite was only a few short years ago.

Having the two tournaments back to back at the start of a very special month for world golf, followed by the Solheim and Ryder Cups, makes the decision for Horizon to get involved a smart one, and adds more heft to the Women’s event in only it’s second year back on the schedule.
