Joe Canning, Alison Canavan, Simon Zebo, Tom Doherty, Annalise Murphy and Eoin Larkin 3/5/20152,000 runners took part yesterday in the Irish leg of the Wings for Life Run, raising money for Spinal Injury research. The runners set off from Dun Laoghaire and headed South towards Bray, Greystones and Wicklow ahead of the Catcher Car that was leaving simultaneously from 35 locations around the world.

Irish sports stars were to the fore with Joe Canning, Simon Zebo, Annalise Murphy and Con Doherty all taking part.

The Irish winner was David Sheehy who went for 52.1 KM before he was reeled in.

In total a little over 100,000 runners took part around the world, with 73,360 at the official locations and the balance running their own races.

The sum raised as of late last night was €4.2 Million, all of which will be going to fund research into reversing the effects of spinal injuries.

Red Bull established the Wings for Life run last year when the Irish leg took place in Kerry.  Pre-registration is already open for the next edition of the race in May 2016 though no venues have yet been selected.  Garmin and Puma came on board as co-partners this year.
