The Home of Cricket – Lord’s Cricket Ground in London – will have a strong green tinge to it today as the Ireland Senior Men’s team start the first day of only their second ever Test match against the hosts.

That first game was a history making match in 2019 when Ireland exploded into the game with bowler Tim Murtagh taking five wickets for only 13 runs and England being bowled out for 85 on the opening day.

Being there was a very special occasion. The venue is up there with Wimbledon, Anfield or Aintree as being one of the world’s most iconic venues and is steeped in history around every corner.

Ireland are big outsiders at odds of around 20/1 with the bookies to secure a first test match win this week but even if that does not happen the experience for the players, fans and coaches will be one to remember and another important step in the evolution and growth of the sport here.

The side comes into the game in good form having played a three-day game against Essex in Chelmsford last week – winning by 10 wickets – with Paul Stirling, PJ Moor and James McCollum all scoring centuries.

The Test Match will be broadcast on both the Sky Sports Main Event HD and Sky Sports Cricket HD channels in the UK and Ireland. It will be worth tuning in at some point over the coming days.
