Welcome to our latest monthly analysis of the social media performance of Sport for Business member organisations, compiled by Olytico in partnership with Sport for Business.
Across May, member organisations published 16,956 posts, generating 1,047,153 public engagements and 11,063,332 TikTok views.
The League of Ireland led the way in terms of overall activity across X, Facebook and Instagram, while standout engagement moments came from the Irish Women’s 4x400m relay team, Cricket Ireland and Tennis Ireland.
After considering X yesterday, we now move to Facebook, again showing renewed vigour, followed by the other two channels over the rest of this week.
In the infographics below, we rank organisations across a range of metrics on each network, including the most active, the most engaged, and the most performing. Where possible, we have also included engagement rates per 1,000 followers to provide a more balanced view of performance.
A special word of congratulations as well to Carla Reynolds of Olytico, whose partner, Stuart Grehan, won The Amateur Championship at Royal Birkdale over the weekend.
As always, the analysis is based on publicly available data. It does not include paid or promoted content, and where percentage changes are referenced, they relate to movement from the previous month unless otherwise stated.
May 2026 Highlights on Facebook
Overview
Facebook activity rose by 11% in May, with 5,939 posts generating 788,809 public engagements, a 42% increase on the previous month.
This is another visible bounce-back from Facebook, a channel many thought was on the way out.
12 months ago, though, the number of engagements was 641,957. The number of posts was also up from 4,539, revealing, as it has over the last two months, that Facebook is having a bit of a moment, and one that is extending strongly.
Highlights
The League of Ireland (784, +22%) topped the Facebook activity charts as Derry’s Cameron Dummigan scored with a spectacular volley against Dundalk (link).
In second, the GAA (590, +31%) crowned Kerry as the Dalata Hotel Group U20 Football Champions (link), and the NIFL (442, -41%) were in third.
Volleyball Ireland (110, +633%) were all smiles on the final day of the Grand Finals (link).
Gymnastics Ireland (132, +214%) crowned Emma Slevin as the new women’s all-around national champion (link).
The Gaelic Players Association announced Blaithin Mackin and Lorna McNamara as the PwC GPA Women’s Players of the Month in Football and Camogie for April, with Odhran Murdock and Stephen Bennett named the GAA/GPA Players of the Month in Football and Hurling.
Cricket Ireland (664, +98%) topped the engagement-per-post charts, with twice as many as last year, followed by Irish Rugby (650, +67%) and Ulster Rugby (511, +31%).
Squash Ireland (4,350) once again topped the average engagements per 1,000 followers metric as Elhammamy and Abbas traded blow for blow in the final of the Quilter Cheviot Cannon Kirk Irish Open 2026.
Cricket Ireland got off to a great start against New Zealand as Mark Adair dismissed Blackcaps captain Tom Latham with the second ball of the match, and this proved to be the most engaged with content on Facebook in May, with over 20,000 public engagements to date.
