The organisers of the Dublin Marathon have confirmed that Irish Life will remain as title sponsor of Ireland’s biggest running event until at least 2029, in a partnership which is a win for sponsor, event, and participants alike.

The extension, running from 2026 to 2029, cements the Irish Life Dublin Marathon’s standing as the country’s premier mass participation event and a recognised World Athletics Elite race, placing it firmly among Europe’s top marathons.

The partnership also continues across the Dublin Race Series, which features the Fingal 10km, the Frank Duffy 10 Mile, and the Dublin Half Marathon – key stepping stones for runners on their way to the 42 km challenge each October.

Declan Bolger, CEO of Irish Life, said the renewed deal reflects a shared commitment to health and wellbeing.

“Irish Life is proud to extend our sponsorship of the Irish Life Dublin Marathon and Dublin Race Series for another four years.”

“Our renewed partnership is a reflection of our deep commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of people across Ireland. We’re genuinely delighted to continue this journey and to champion events that inspire thousands of people to move more and live well.”

The announcement came at the same time as it was unveiled that long-serving official Seán O’Riain was stepping up as Chief Executive Officer.

Having spent over 20 years helping shape the event, O’Riain will now lead alongside Race Director Jim Aughney, Technical Director Neil Kennedy, and Event Director Paul Barnes.

“I’m delighted to step into this position,” O’Riain said. “With Irish Life’s ongoing partnership, we have a solid foundation to build upon the marathon’s legacy and further enhance the experience for runners, supporters, and volunteers.”

Completing a 1-2-3 of announcements, organisers also unveiled the official marathon medal design for this year’s race, set for Sunday, October 26. Drawing on Dublin’s heritage, the medal features the Custom House, the Samuel Beckett Bridge, the Ha’penny Bridge, and the Wellington Monument, as well as cultural icons James Joyce and Molly Malone.

“The medal is a lasting symbol of a runner’s achievement,” said Jim Aughney. “It captures the essence of Dublin – its history, culture, and landmarks – so that when runners cross the finish line, they take home a piece of the city with them.”

Irish Life is also offering tangible rewards to participants. Irish Life Health customers with a Benefit Plan who are registered for the 2025 marathon will be able to claim up to €50 cashback on their entry fee – recognition of the personal commitment made by every runner, and also a measurable return for the sponsor.
