With over 4.3 million public engagements across the four main platforms, the April 2025 Olytico
analysis welcomes the NIFL for the first time and covers 15,000 pieces of social content.

As we will see throughout the week, in the in-depth analysis of each of the four social media, activity and engagement continues to dip, this is the fifth month in a row that has seen a year on year decline on X, and there are also dips across each of the others on where they were 12 months ago, albeit less marked in the case of this morning;’s spotlight on Facebook.

Here is how our monthly report coverage will shape up during the week.

In the infographics below, we have ranked each of the organisations across a range of metrics on each network, including the most active, the most engaged with, and the most engaging content as well as engagements per 1,000 followers where possible.

It is important to note that this analysis is based on publicly available data. It does not include any analysis or insight on paid or promoted content. When % figures are used (unless otherwise stated), they refer to the previous month’s figures.

April 2025 Highlights on Facebook

Facebook activity fell 4% in April from March, with 4,427 posts though activity levels were up by almost 10 per cent on the previous year.

534,102 public engagements was down on last year’s 583,000 but the fall was less marked that we saw with X in yesterday’s report on that channel.

The League of Ireland topped the activity charts for the third month in a row with 654 posts (+12%) as Derry City unveiled their new stand at the Brandywell.  This was a rise in activity from last years 568 posts, a refelection perhaps of the rising interest across the League.

The NIFL (564) saw Bangor confirmed as the Player-Fit Championship Champions, and in third, the GAA  (423, -17% on March but ahead of 2024’s 401 posts) saw Cork claim the Allianz Leagues title.

The Federation of Irish Sport (30, +131%) shared the news that Volleyball Ireland had officially opened three purpose built Beach Volleyball courts at the Sport Ireland Campus, Irish Sailing (40, +100%) saw Finn Lynch claim a bronze medal, and Swim Ireland (93, +66%) congratulated Daniel Wiffen as he cemented a qualification at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships 800m Freestyle, along with setting a new Irish Open Championship Record, with a time of 7:41.52 – the fastest time swam in the 800m in the world this year.

Irish Rugby (714, -83%) topped the average engagement per post charts, followed by the Northern Ireland National Team (600, +112%) and Ulster Rugby (530, +42%).

The NIFL account (2,458) topped the average engagements per 1,000 followers metric, an impressive first showing on these lists for our latest new sporting member of Sport for Business.

The Northern Ireland National Team generated the most engaged with content on Facebook in April as they congratulated Rory McIlroy on his Masters win, to date this post has generated close to 15,000 public engagements.

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE

The smaller percentage fall in engagement on Facebook than X is notable, as is the continued level of activity going in and the creativity being used in the content.

The Irish FA’s repurposing of Rory McIlroy image from 2016 was very smart and well rewarded.

WHAT’S UP NEXT?

Each of the other Social Media Channels will be covered over the coming days.
