Olytico’s September 2025 analysis of Irish Sport on Social Media captures 12,600 posts, 4.78 million public engagements, and 8.36 million TikTok views.

From world-class success on the track (and on the water) to a single viral moment that dominated engagement charts, the report highlights a 64% surge in overall engagements over the last month.

Today, in the first of four articles on the Social Media metrics from last month, we are focusing on X.

In the infographics below, we have ranked each of the organisations across a range of metrics on each network, including the most active, the most engaged with, and the most engaging content, as well as engagements per 1,000 followers where possible.

It is important to note that this analysis is based on publicly available data. It does not include any analysis or insight on paid or promoted content. When % figures are used (unless otherwise stated), they refer to the previous month’s figures.

Here is how our monthly report coverage will shape up during the week.

September 2025 Highlights on X

Activity on X fell 12% in September, though the 4,847 posts generated 153,826 engagements, a 7% increase on the previous month.

Last year’s number of X engagements across the same body of accounts was 269,243.

Once again, the League of Ireland (653, -24%) topped the X activity charts as holders Drogheda United secured a very late equaliser against Shamrock Rovers in the FAI Cup Quarter Final, before eventually going out on penalties.

Dublin GAA (575, +92%) in second reminisced over 1995’s All-Ireland campaign, and the NIFL (474, -19%) were in third.

Ireland Football recorded the highest average engagements per post on X at 254 (+85%), followed by Athletics Ireland with 194 (+246%) and Irish Rugby with 122 (+37%).

These respective numbers in 2024 were 434, 130 and 163, while in 2023 the same three accounts generated an average engagement per post of  423, 1,065, bolstered by the Rugby World Cup in France, and 176.

Athletics Ireland (527) topped the average engagements per 1,000 followers metric, as well as generating the most engaged with content on X in September, as Kate O’Connor won Ireland’s first ever global outdoor senior medal in the multi-events space with a national record-breaking performance in Tokyo.

This one post post has generated close to 6,000 public engagements to date.
