As is so often the case in sport, one result can open up the door to plenty more opportunity.

The Curragh Racecourse has announced that Juddmonte will sponsor the Irish Oaks for the next three years.

Ireland’s premier race for fillies will take place at The Curragh this year on Saturday July 18.

Juddmonte have enjoyed a long and successful association with the Curragh since 1988 when they first sponsored the Group 2 Beresford Stakes. In 2018 they became a Group 1 sponsor with the Pretty Polly Stakes and now they are becoming a Classic sponsor.

The colours of Juddmonte owner Prince Khalid Abdullah were carried to victory last weekend by Siskin in the Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas in a victory that was both impressive and emotional.

To draw a line between that win and this announcement might be a stretch but it does no harm at all in furthering the relationship.

The same colours have been worn to victory in the Irish Oaks on three occasions with Enable in 2017, Bolas in 1994 and Wemyss Bight in 1993.

Commander In Chief won the Irish Derby in 1993.

“We are very grateful to His Highness Prince Khalid and the team at Juddmonte for their generous support of The Curragh,” said CEO Pat Keogh who featured in our Sport for Business Daily Interview last week.

“These are very challenging times for all of us and having a great name like Juddmonte sponsoring the Irish Oaks is a great vote of confidence for Irish racing.”

“Juddmonte’s global operation has been associated with some of the greatest thoroughbred horses of our time and is synonymous with quality and prestige which connects well to the sponsorship of an Irish Classic race.”

“Juddmonte is very supportive of The Curragh and we are delighted to sponsor this prestigious Classic for the first time,” added Juddmonte CEO Douglas Erskine-Crum.

“We feel strongly that Juddmonte should demonstrate our support and appreciation of Irish racing and breeding.”

It is the third positive sponsorship story from the Curragh in recent weeks following expansions of engagement with Paddy Power and Gain.
