Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano finally came together in person yesterday at the famous Madison Square Garden in New York.
On April 30th they will become the first Women’s bout to headline at the iconic venue and while they both said their pieces about how much the fight meant it was down to Jake Paul and then Barry Hearn to confirm that each boxer would be taking home a seven-figure purse, regardless of the outcome.
If it is a fight for the ages as it is being talked up as then you can be pretty sure that there will be a second time around, and a doubling of the money that each will win.
This is the pay-off for turning pro after the disappointment of Rio and the years since spent mostly in an apartment in Connecticut, training, and training, and training.
Yes, there have been the fights in between, each one drawing increasing interest from way beyond our shores and delivering subscribers to DAZN as they had hoped.
“They are getting paid in the seven figures, which is historic,” said Paul in an interview with Ariel Helwani.
“It’s never happened for women, guaranteed seven figures plus pay-per-view. Obviously, it’s going to be a massive pay-per-view. This is life-changing for both girls.”
“This is a fight I have been looking forward to for quite some time now,” said Taylor.
“It’s incredible how far the sport has come. It’s been called the biggest fight in female boxing history and it is a privilege to be part of a historic moment – this is history right here.”
“I think this fight is the most exciting fight in the sport. Not just in female boxing, in boxing as a whole.”
Tickets on the secondary market in the US at the moment are selling for between $194 and $1,511. They don’t go on sale to the general public until tomorrow.
