Kildare GAA is looking for a new sponsor after Tegral announced that they would no longer be able to continue their 21 year support of the county.
The company has been hit by the downturn in construction and is the latest to leave county boards looking for new partners.
Tyrone’s main backer Target Express ceased trading this year while Down played the Championship season with the Canal Court Hotel on their shirts even though the deal ended nearly 12 months ago.
Supermac’s with Galway, Carrolls Meats in Offaly and the Kerry Group with the county their name would suggest are the three remaining sponsors who have been present on county shirts since branding was first permitted in 1991.
The newest supporter on the county scene was unveiled last week when Tayto Park was announced as the principal sponsor of the Meath Senior teams.
The GAA Commercial Department is currently reviewing different sponsorship models for county shirts after a proposal at last year’s congress to permit up to four brands around front, back and sleeves was withdrawn.
The principal sponsors of counties are Vodafone in Dublin, O2 in Cork and Glanbia in Kilkenny.  This year’s football finalists carried Donegal Creameries and Elverys both of whom have strong local connections.
Kildare’s situation is made more difficult by a large cash deficit built up in the county though expenditure on the senior team in the past 12 months was a relatively modest E270,000.
