The SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier and First Divisions in the League of Ireland kick off tonight and the social media channels operated by the clubs will be buzzing with updates.

Over recent years we have taken a look at how the growth of the league has been measured on social channel and today we are pleased to do the same, with the addition for the first time of the clubs following on TikTok.

For the first time, and perhaps as a measure of the competition on the pitch as well, we have three different clubs topping the charts for the number of followers on X, Instagram and Tik Tok.

Cork City’s return to the top flight nudges them back ahead of Bohemians on X.

Bohs have leapfrogged Shamrock Rovers into top spot on Instagram in 2025.

Rovers will be content though with their dominance on TikTok where they have almost 300,000 followers.

Cork City, Derry City and Galway United have also taken to the video sharing medium with really strong follower bases.

Despite the challenges that X has faced over the past 12 months each of the ten clubs featured has still managed to add to their follower base, just as they have on Instagram as well.

The League of Ireland account has grown across all three channels and now has in or around 70,000 followers on both X and Instagram. It has also performed consistently well in the engagement numbers we produce each month with our friends at Olytico.

The content day that took part as part of the League launch last week allowed for a bank of content to be created which the clubs will be able to use throughout the season.

We will be back next week with a look at the teams in the SSE Airtricity Men’s First division and then in the Women’s Premier Division after that.

We will also keep you up to date with some of the most imaginative content which the League and the teams are creating.
