Leinster Rugby’s new adidas European and Alternate jerseys were revealed across the province’s social media channels yesterday morning, using a mix of mythology, meteorology and new media.
Both jerseys are exclusively available to pre-order from Life Style Sports as part of their long term partnership.
The design of the new European jersey reaches back again into the history and mythology of the Laighin people.
It takes inspiration from meteorites that fell from the sky and were used by them to create their iron spear. The same spear tips were the motif behind the home jersey that was released last summer as a first from Adidas.
Then they had to be redone with the addition of a fourth Heineken European Cup star above the crest after the 2018 win came too late for the initial production run.
You never truly lose so long as you learn and perhaps that experience is behind the slightly offset look to the stars on the new jersey. Then again it could be an indication of the optimism around the Provinces ambition to get back to the very top of European Rugby as soon as possible.
Bank of Ireland features prominently on the front sleeves and collar of the jersey giving it a clean look and feel.
We like purple at Sport for Business so we have to like the new Alternate jersey which we are told embodies the electric energy of Ireland’s east coast at night.
The iconic purple skyline forms the colour inspiration for the new shirt which also incorporates a twist on the traditional hoop design.
The new European kit will be worn for the next two seasons, while the Home jersey from last season carries over into the new campaign.
And here’s a glimpse of behind the scenes at the photoshoot…
