The 2023 Gaelic4Girls programme was launched yesterday by sponsors Glenveagh Homes alongside Ladies Gaelic Football stars from all four provinces including Aimee Mackin of Armagh, Jennifer Higgins of Roscommon, Emma Duggan of Meath and Laurie Ryan of Clare.
The 10-week programme incorporates coaching sessions with fun, non-competitive blitzes, with a particular focus on young girls who are not currently registered with a Ladies Gaelic Football Club. It is targeted at girls aged between eight and twelve years old.
The Gaelic4Girls ambassadors will be supporting Glenveagh with initiatives to promote the programme. Aimee Mackin’s path to the top flight with Armagh began with her club Shane O’Neills’ Gaelic4Girls programme, and the former Player of the Year is keen to inspire the next generation of LGFA stars.
To mark the launch of the 2023 Gaelic4Girls programme, Glenveagh is giving all clubs involved the chance to be in with winning a training session with one of their four Gaelic4Girls ambassadors. To enter, people simply need to post their best team photo from their club account on Instagram or Facebook and tag the LGFA and Glenveagh with the hashtag #G4Gskills.
This year, 25 clubs from across Ireland and Britain will take part in the programme, with 15 counties represented across the representation. Clubs from Galway, Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo will the flag for Connacht in the 2023 programme, while Leinster will be represented by ten clubs from six counties. In Munster, four clubs have been selected, two each from Cork and Kerry, while the Ulster presence amounts to four clubs from three counties.
“We are delighted to be supporting the LGFA’s Gaelic4Girls programme for the third consecutive year,” said Cameron McDonnell, Head of Marketing at Glenveagh Homes.
“We are passionate about building strong, inclusive communities and providing them with a solid foundation to flourish in the future.”
“The Gaelic4Girls programme is an ideal way of doing this with significant benefits for participants and their wider communities. This initiative drives participation in Ladies Gaelic Football amongst young girls, and equips them with the confidence and skills needed for a brighter future on and off the pitch.”
“From humble beginnings, our Glenveagh Homes Gaelic4Girls programme has grown and evolved into a thriving initiative,” added LGFA President Micheál Naughton.
“For many young girls, the Glenveagh Homes Gaelic4Girls programme is their first introduction to Ladies’ Gaelic Football. It is a touchpoint that can lead to a lifetime of unforgettable memories and experiences – and we eagerly anticipated the commencement of the 2023 programme in Ireland and Britain.”
“I would also like to acknowledge the contribution of our programme sponsors, Glenveagh Homes, who have been on hand to provide invaluable assistance in the programme roll-out. Glenveagh Homes display a similar passion for Gaelic4Girls and Ladies Football – and we thank them most sincerely for their ongoing support.”
