Limerick and Kilkenny marched serenely on into the All Ireland Hurling Championship Semi-Finals with comfortable victories in the Munster and Leinster Hurling Championship Finals over the weekend.

The highest drama occurred at FBD Semple Stadium, where a local power outage delayed the start of the game by 30 minutes.

Over 45,000 were in attendance, almost 50 per cent more than there had been the night before in Croke Park for the Kilkenny win over a disappointing Dublin side.

Both they and Clare will need to pick themselves up now to face the winners of the preliminary Quarter-Finals next weekend.

Clare will face the winners of Laois and Wexford for the right to play against Kilkenny.

Dublin face the daunting prospect of meeting the winners of Cork and Offaly before the winner of that comes up against Limerick.

The closest game and the most fervent celebration of the weekend once again belonged to Offaly, who overcame Laois by the minimum margin in the Joe McDonagh Cup Final, which served as a supposed curtain-raiser for the Leinster Final.

Following on from the U20 All Ireland win last week the county hurlers are living in what must feel like a fever dream of success.
