Derry City will play a series of upcoming home fixtures at Celtic Park as redevelopment work continues on the pitch at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

The League of Ireland has confirmed that four SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division games will be relocated to the GAA venue over the coming weeks, ensuring continuity of fixtures while essential upgrades are completed at the Brandywell.

The temporary switch will see Derry City host Galway United on Monday, May 4th, followed by games against St. Patrick’s Athletic on Friday, May 22nd, Shelbourne FC on Monday, May 25th, and Bohemian FC on Friday, June 12th.

The use of Celtic Park, the home of Derry GAA, reflects a growing trend of cross-code cooperation in Irish sport, particularly when infrastructure projects demand flexibility. With the Brandywell pitch undergoing redevelopment, the arrangement ensures that Derry City can maintain momentum during a critical phase of the season without the disruption of extended away runs.

The move highlights the importance of adaptable venue strategies and strong local partnerships. Shared use of facilities, even on a temporary basis, offers a blueprint for maximising existing infrastructure while major upgrades are undertaken.

There are also commercial and operational considerations at play. Match day experience, ticketing logistics, and broadcast arrangements will all need to be reconfigured for a different venue, while maintaining the identity and atmosphere associated with Derry City’s home games.

The redevelopment of the Brandywell, of which these pitch works are a part, will enhance facilities and future-proof the stadium, reinforcing its role as a key asset within the League of Ireland and the city’s sporting and community infrastructure.
