Leona Maguire has been named the Irish Times / Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Year for February.
She follows Swimmer Ellen Walshe from December and Rugby’s Lucy Mulhall in January.
Each of twelve monthly winners also goes forward for the annual award which is handed out in December and was won in 2021 by Rachael Blackmore.
Maguire had a stellar month winning the Drive On Championship in Florida to secure her first victory on the LPGA Tour.
She also secured a four-year extension to her winning partnership with KPMG, copper fastening her appeal as one of the most popular and engaging brand ambassadors in Irish sport at the moment.
This is the eleventh time that Maguire has won the ever-popular award, putting her second in the all-time list only to Katie Taylor.
She first caught the eye of the judges a full 15 years ago when she and her twelve-year-old twin sister Lisa were starting to make waves at a more local level than the heights to which she has now climbed.
She spent 135 weeks at the top of the Amateur World Rankings before turning professional and her strong performance in last year’s winning Solheim Cup performance brought her to a truly global audience.
