The SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon has sold out for the first time in its history and is now the fourth biggest marathon in Europe.

This October’s Marathon will see 19,500 taking part, a massive 30 per cent increase on 2015.

A key element in the surge in interest was the move from a Bank Holiday Monday to the previous Sunday encouraging a significant boost in overseas travellers coming in and domestic runners who will now have a day of recovery before returning to work.

Saturday’s SSE Airtricity Dublin Half Marathon also completely sold out after increasing the capacity to 9,500 from 7,000 in 2015.

The sponsor has also adopted an interesting CSR element to this year’s race.

It will donate one Euro to the Make a Wish Foundation for every kilometre run by staff members throughout the Dublin Marathon Series.  It is anticipated that this will give rise to a €10,000 donation by race day on October 30th.
