The Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps of 2020 were like a swallow heralding summer with their restaging one of the first ways in which sport began to emerge from the deepest stages of the Covid-19 lockdown.

Today it is revealed that they meant even more to one particular club with Skryne GFC named as winners of the first prize in the 2020 Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps on-pack promotion, claiming a huge €25,000 for the club.

Families were encouraged to buy special packs of cereal which had a unique code that could then be submitted online to enter their club in the promotion.

There were three prizes of €25,000, €10,000 and €5,000 and the Meath club emerged with the main prize.

Wicklow’s Rathnew GAA club has scooped €10,000 in second place with Newmarket on Fergus GAA club, Clare winning third place with €5,000.

After an uncertain start to the summer, 71,699 children attended Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps at 667 camps throughout the country. With participation levels understandably lower this year due to limited availability, the camps proved a real success giving children across the country a chance to socialise and exercise outside.

A Cúl Camps first was also started, TG4 aired the GAA Cúl Camp television programme with over 300,000 viewers tuning in.

Trevor Giles who once tortured oppositions in the Leinster Championship playing for his county is one of the coaches at Skryne and he is pictured above with his own son amongst other children and David Byrne from Kellogg’s taking possession of the winning prize.

“Our partnership with the GAA is very much focused on the grassroots of the association and this year we were very happy to commit our largest ever prize fund of €40,000,” said Ruth Hughes of Kelloggs

“2020 has been such a tough year but we are delighted to know that these funds will go back into the local communities and clubs, the heart of the GAA.”
