At Sport for Business we consume a lot of sporting media. We need to in order to keep on top of the rapidly moving world of sport.

Every now and again what should be a glance takes us down a rabbit hole but also occasionally stops us in our tracks.

You may have noticed there is a World Cup taking place at the moment in Australia and New Zealand.

European Champions England are playing today in their group stage match against Denmark. Yesterday the reigning champions the USA were held by the Netherlands and hosts Australia were beaten in a 3-2 thriller by Nigeria.

Lots of news then for an English newspaper to really get stuck into, don’t you think.

Well, the Daily Telegraph generates a morning snapshot of the stories it thinks are the most interesting and today it covers three stories from football.

Here is what they delivered:

“In football, former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has joined Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq, sparking condemnation from LGBT+ groups. Henderson has been a vocal supporter of gay rights, but has been told he has ‘lost the respect’ of the community he backed.”

“Bayern Munich have ramped up their pursuit of Harry Kane as executives of the Bundesliga club fly in to London for talks with Daniel Levy, the Tottenham Hotspur chairman, over a possible £86 million move for the England striker. The ongoing transfer chatter surrounding Kane, writes Thom Gibbs, however, lacks some of the spice of transfer sagas of old.”

“Manchester United have offered Atalanta £51.4 million for striker Rasmus Hojlund rather than move for Kane; Brighton & Hove Albion have rejected an improved £80 million from Chelsea for midfielder Moises Caicedo and Manchester City will spend £300 million on expanding the capacity of the Etihad Stadium to 60,000.”

There were other stories about the Ashes and Novak Djokovic but for them on this day at the World Cup, Women’s sport does not exist.

Really, sometimes you just need to cop yourself on to what you are doing.
