Opel Ireland has been named as the official sponsor of a pivotal award category at this year’s Federation of Irish Sport Irish Sport Industry Awards, taking place on 20th May 2025 in Dublin.
They will sponsor and present the Best Initiative to Promote Women in Sport and Physical Activity—a category that recognises outstanding work in breaking down barriers, creating opportunities, and driving visibility for women in sport.
The sponsorship aligns with Opel’s ‘It Takes Everyone’ campaign, which celebrates initiatives such as Driving the Passion, Empowering Women’s Rugby, and Driving Sevens Rugby.
Opel Ireland’s commitment to sport is well established as a proud sponsor of Irish Rugby and official car partner to the IRFU.
Presenting the award on behalf of Opel Ireland will be their brand ambassador Irish International rugby player Aimee Leigh Costigan.
Mary O’Connor, CEO of the Federation of Irish Sport, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Opel Ireland as a category sponsor for this year’s awards. Their support for Irish Rugby and strong track record of empowering women in sport makes them an ideal partner. These awards highlight the exceptional work being done by our member organisations and their commercial partners, and Opel’s involvement helps shine a light on even more inspirational stories.”
Emma Toner, Head of Marketing at Opel Ireland, added: “We are immensely proud to sponsor the Best Initiative to Promote Women in Sport and Physical Activity category award. It aligns perfectly with our continued support of women’s 7s and XVs rugby, demonstrated by our appointment of seven women’s player brand ambassadors. It has been magical to see these phenomenal women soar to new heights, making history and qualifying for the Olympics in 2024 and the Rugby World Cup in 2025.”
Now in its eighth year, the Irish Sport Industry Awards celebrate innovation, excellence, and commercial impact across 11 categories, including nine open to public nominations. From promoting inclusivity to recognising entrepreneurial leadership in the sector, the event reflects the essential role of sport in Irish society and its contribution to the national economy—supporting over 64,000 jobs and generating €3.7 billion in annual value to the Irish economy.
The shortlisted finalists in each category will be announced tomorrow Friday 9th
Business Plus and KPMG are also sponsors of this year’s awards.
