Paralympics Ireland has announced a new research project in partnership with the University of Limerick. The project aims to investigate the experience of athletes and coaches within Paralympic pathways in Ireland.
The project aims to explore the experiences of athletes and coaches currently involved in the Para pathway in Ireland to understand what makes a positive developmental experience and improves recruitment, retention, and the overall sporting environment.
By focusing on the perspectives of those involved, the research hopes to identify factors that contribute to both positive and negative experiences, including barriers, challenges, and opportunities within the pathway.
The goal is to use these insights to develop strategies that create a more inclusive, supportive, and effective environment for Para athletes and coaches.
Paralympics Ireland was awarded funding from Rethink Ireland on behalf of the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration, and Youth to conduct this research.
Rethink Ireland is a social innovation fund that supports the most innovative non-profit organisations working in communities across the country.

“This initiative will ensure that future practices and strategies are evidence-based, driven by the voices of athletes and coaches. The research team from the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science at the University of Limerick is honoured to collaborate with Paralympics Ireland on this venture.”
Sport for Business will host a Member Exclusive Round Table event on Sport and Data at the Dublin Offices of Fanatics on Thursday, August 22nd. This is one of many events planned for the remainder of 2024.
