Sean O'Brein, Paul O'Connell and Rob Kearney 14/7/2015Paul O’Connell has announced his retirement from rugby on medical advice.  He will therefore not be playing for Toulon this season or next.  There are a hundred places where his impact on the game, on Munster Rugby and on Irish sport will be reviewed and every word written will be in praise of a man who was a leader without ever losing the common touch that endeared him to everyone he met.

There is no indication yet on whether he will look to pursue a career in the sport as a coach or administrator, in the media or in business.  It is likely that he will be a success though in whatever he turns his hand to.

We like the tribute paid in social media by Heineken Ireland who were quick out of the blocks with this superhero themed digital content..
